Alyce Barrett is a multidisciplinary conceptual artist whose ceramic practice explores transformation, human connection, and the emotional resonance of shared experience. Working exclusively through hand-building, she creates organic, fluid sculptural forms that move between containment and release, structure and softness, rupture and renewal.

Her work is deeply informed by observation, particularly moments of human connection that inspire reflection, dialogue, and collective presence. Barrett approaches sculpture as a way of translating emotional and interpersonal experiences into physical form. Through unfolding edges, open interiors, layered surfaces, and gesture-driven structures, her pieces attempt to hold the feeling of witnessing people come together, communicate, and affect one another in meaningful ways.

Clay functions as both medium and meditation within her practice. Barrett began working in ceramics after the age of 50, following a lifelong self-directed practice in painting and design while working professionally in business and community advocacy. The physicality of clay introduced a grounding and intuitive process that allowed her to explore transformation more directly through touch, repetition, and material response.

Her sculptures often evoke botanical, bodily, and environmental associations without fixed representation. Fluid movement and evolving forms suggest cycles of growth, vulnerability, memory, and change. Rather than creating static objects, Barrett constructs forms that feel in motion…shaped by pressure, interaction, and emergence.

Barrett’s work reflects an ongoing interest in how people connect, influence one another, and create meaning together. Her practice exists as both personal reflection and invitation: a space for contemplation, conversation, and emotional recognition.
